Lip filler is a form of hyaluronic acid dermal filler treatment used to improve lip shape, border definition, symmetry, hydration appearance or volume. The aim is to respect the natural relationship between the upper and lower lip, dental support, side profile and surrounding facial proportions.

The appearance on the day is not the result.

Your lips and surrounding lower face are assessed from the front and side. Previous filler, cold-sore history, dental work and medical factors are reviewed. After cleansing and anaesthesia where appropriate, small amounts of filler are placed according to the agreed plan. Swelling is expected, and the immediate post-treatment appearance is not the final result.

The goal is improvement in proportion and definition rather than a fixed volume. A staged approach across more than one appointment is often safer and more natural than attempting a large change in a single visit.

Active cold sore, oral or dental infection, inflamed skin, pregnancy or breastfeeding, significant uncontrolled illness and previous serious filler reaction are common reasons to defer. Recent or planned dental procedures should be discussed at consultation.

Swelling, tenderness, bruising, firmness, unevenness and small injection marks are common initially, and swelling can be asymmetrical while it settles. Allow it to settle before judging symmetry or requesting additional filler.
