Book NowPRP joint injection uses platelet-rich plasma prepared from your own blood and injected into a joint, most commonly the knee. It is offered as a regenerative procedure, but the evidence for benefit is uncertain and preparation methods vary between systems. It is therefore considered only after diagnosis, discussion of alternatives, and clear consent about the limitations of the current evidence.

The evidence is limited, and that is part of the consent.
A blood sample is taken and processed in a validated closed system. The preparation method, blood volume, centrifuge programme and final volume are documented. The joint is prepared using aseptic technique and the preparation is injected using the clinic protocol. Rehabilitation remains an important part of management.
It is considered for selected persistent knee osteoarthritis symptoms after assessment, for patients seeking a non-steroid autologous option who understand the uncertainty, and alongside an appropriate rehabilitation and exercise programme.
Some patients report improvement in pain or function, but a response cannot be guaranteed. NICE HealthTech guidance states that the evidence raises no major safety concerns but that efficacy evidence is limited in quality, and recommends special arrangements for governance, consent and audit. Outcomes are therefore reviewed rather than assumed from completing a package.
Joint or systemic infection, significant anaemia or thrombocytopenia, platelet dysfunction, uncontrolled coagulopathy, active cancer affecting the area, severe systemic illness or an inability to follow rehabilitation are reasons to defer or avoid treatment.
